Hacking battery management board to work without batteries?

I have to replace the battery pack of my MBP 13” Retina Early 2015. This pack consists of a battery management board, a set of LiPo cells and likely some thermal sensors.

Today it’s still possible to source new battery packs for this machine, but maybe not anymore in 4-5 years. Hence my question…

Would it be possible to de-solder the LiPo cells and reinstall the battery management board (without battery cells attached) to operate the laptop without batteries, avoiding the performance throttling feature people run into when powering their macBooks without installing the battery?

I commend you on your efforts to extend your systems life for a life span longer than 10 years!

So far MacBook’s which are 15 years of age are still able to get batteries! So I’m sure you’ll still be able to get a fresh battery.

As far as hobbling the micro controller board to work without a battery I don’t know of anyone attempting that.

To be honest I don’t think that would be that good ;-{

One of the problems with laptops is trying to use them when tethered to a power brick or even external devices unless you have glued your self to a desk. As an example I’m sitting on my couch pecking away on my 2011 15” MacBook Pro watching the news and having my morning joe.

Running on AC without a battery would put your activity at risk as well as your systems drive as it would likely get corrupted.
