Dropped my phone and it broke (Description for more detail)

So i dropped my phone and I broke the screen, I turned it on and it quite clear the LCD is really damaged. So I left it alone for 3 months under my clothes and now it has stopped turning on nor it’ll charge either, I’ve checked the LED’s when you charge you phone but it didn’t give a light. I am in need of your help my theory is the battery might be dead but I am still not sure, your help will be surely appreciated!

Hi @pretax ,

After 3 months of not being charged the battery may have become depleted beyond recovery.

First use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the phone’s charge port for any obstructions e.g. lint that may be preventing a good electrical connection. If there is anything in the port do not use a metal pin or probe to get it out as it may damage the pins or cause electrical problems in the phone. Try using a vacuum cleaner instead, to suck it out. If it won’t dislodge use a sharpened wooden toothpick to gently prise it out.

You could try leaving the charger connected to the phone for 2-3 hours (if you haven’t already done so) as sometimes batteries can be kick started back into life again. If it shows during this time that it is being charged, allow it to fully charge before attempting to use the phone.

If it is still no good after this time then for a start the battery will need to be replaced.

Here are the ifixit Samsung Galaxy A50 guides. They will help you to replace the battery and the screen.

Hey @jayeff I've actually tried to charge the phone, I've left it for a solid an hour or so it hasn't given any signal of life. But for some reason it's getting slightly warm and the area I charged my phone in my room which is relatively cold with my AC on. I don't know if this is a good sign or not I would appreciate your response on this!

Hi @pretax

Still try charging for 2-3 hours as suggested as sometimes 1 hour might not be enough to kick start it again.

I'd change the battery and then re-evaluate depending on results.

Getting slightly warm maybe just the battery management circuits in the phone trying to do what they're designed to do i.e. manage the charging of the battery which may not be working due to a failed battery.

You have to start with a "known good" battery rather than trying to work out what is wrong when the status of the battery is unknown, (good? or bad?) and it may be distorting the symptoms as to what is actually wrong.

@jayeff Hey there it's me again! I was wondering if you could help me with another problem so I've already replaced the battery now the problem is the screen. I don't if the problem is only the screen or something else I really dont want to spend on new part if the problem isn't really related to it. As I've said in the post I've dropped it before and the screen was broken, after replacing the battery with a new one it can now detected in my pc so Is the screen the only thing i need to replace? Hoping to hear from you soon.

A broken or cracked screen is not a good sign.

With the phone turned on, try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen and check if you can detect any images at all on the screen.

They will be very faint if they are there at all so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them if they are there.

If you can see images then there is a backlight problem BUT this is only a symptom and doesn't really help until you have replaced the screen.

As a DIY repair at this stage temporarily replacing the screen is all that you can try.

If the replacement works OK then all well and good. If it also doesn't work and it "shows" images as well when using a torch then the backlight problem is on the systemboard. It may only be a blown fuse which may have occurred if the battery wasn't disconnected from the board (the battery didn't have to be totally removed, just disconnected) as soon as it could be accessed before working inside the phone to replace it etc.

If there were no images visible on the original screen when using a torch then again replacing the screen is the only choice. The problem has to be proven either in the screen or on the systemboard.

Professional repairers with access to the schematics may be able to work out where the problem is but I’m guessing that they take the quick option and temporarily fit a compatible screen (which no doubt they have in stock) to check if it works or not first.
