Samsung TV Standby LED flashes, but does not power on?
Hi iFixit forums,
The model of the TV is a Samsung UN55JS8500F. The issue with the TV is when the On button is pressed, I hear a power click, and the red standby led flashed 8 times (2 quick bursts 4 times), before the standby returning to solid red, meaning the TV failed to start.
At first I assumed this meant the power board, as when I opened it up, the central unit had some burn marks on the copper. I purchased a new board, but I experienced the same flashing led issue.
I’ve been referencing issues #490926 and #602270 of similar samsung TVs, as I have not been able to find my exact model. From what I’ve learned, if the power board is fine, the other suspects are the main board, the T-con board, or the backlight.
A quote from issue #490926:
“If the problem is No Video but BLU (backlight unit) is on and Indication LED is blinking repeatedly and faster than normal booting, replace the T-Con board. “ Since I have this blinking light, I am wondering if the issue is the T-Con. However, my backlight does not come on.
However, another issue is from another quote:
“ ‘Disconnected the power board from the mainboard, backlight did not come on’ sounds like a power board issue.” I disconnected the power from the main board too, and I got no backlight. The power board is fine, so I now wonder whether the first quote about the LED takes precedence or not. Meaning if it would still be the T-con board at fault, or something else. Perhaps the backlight is also dead.
I’m wondering if there is some way to discern which component it might be? Without a multimeter, it might not be possible, but I’ll see if I can pick one up. One issue is that I could not find an exact schematic for this model.
If anyone has any insight, any information is appreciated! I know this is probably an unfixable issue, but I thought I’d give it a shot, as I don’t mind tinkering with it a bit.
Thanks!
