Saving data from hard drive

So my pro won't turn on after swapping thermal paste. Could be the punctured ribbon cable, could be the power supply somehow…

Is there any way to rescue the save data if I never had ps plus?

I thought maybe pulling the hard drive and getting an external shell or putting it in my ps4. but it seems, after some investigation, setting the hard drive in another console would proc a format which would absolutely defeat the purpose

What can I do? Aside hopefully from kiss my saves goodbye
