Unable to charge laptop, no light comes on from magsafe charger.

I am unable to charge my Macbook Pro 2011. I have tried to clean out both the charger and port, and used multiple different outlets. I suspect it is on the computer’s side, as the charger was bought new only a year or so ago, and didn’t get removed from its package until this summer and has seen very light use since.

When I plug the cord into the laptop, no light comes on. There is no green or amber light, and the computer doesn’t recognize the cable is there. I have already removed and cleaned the battery and its connectors, to no avail.

I’m a bit worried this could be over my head and involves something deeper than a simple tool kit can fix. If there is any technique, idea, or solution to this, it would be greatly appreciated.
