Will I fix a fried web camera with a new display assembly?
Hi there,
i think I accidentally fried my macbook’s the facetime hd camera circuitry. Apparently im stupid enough to remove and attache back the flex cable while the battery was still connected to the motherboard.
I did this because theres this horizontal lines in my macbook display, which i thought would be fixed if i reseat a few flex cables, but then i end up with a non-working camera. Now i have two problems…
If i replace the entire display assembly, will it fix the camera issue?
this is the replacement part:

Hi Seff Ka,
I think it’s fried because the camera is no longer detected. Also, back when I try to put the cable back, I think I remember hearing a tiny click–im think I shorted something out. I tried to reseat it several times (with battery unplugged to the board), but no luck..
It is ok to manipulate those cables even on the running machine, if you careful enough. Clicks are also normal, or should I say necessary, part of resitting process, so again - nothing to worry just yet. If you worry - you will definitely miss something (you will not even see the difference with the naked eyes), and your goal at the moment should be to recheck everything, especially that small camera ribbon's connector that's connected to the motherboard. Disconnect the connectors, clean the contact plates (with old clean toothbrush etc), look for any sign of deterioration/dirt under a magnifying glass on both ends, and then, when you are sure that everything is in order, reconnect them again and hear all those clicks. If there were none - your connector is not resitted properly and that is precisely where your problem resides.
Yes, disconnected camera will not appear in the system. This is normal.

Minding that the camera does not consume power in the amount needed to actually fry it, or to fry the circuit, I would say that it is more probable that it's connector is not sitted properly.
Please refer to Dan's illustration (https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/ig...) for the assembly's connectors designation.

And, I can't see those horizontal lines you've mentioned on your pictures ))
No, I get it - you are trying to be a perfectionist, but spending 400 and something on the part replacement at this particular stage seems to me a bit unjustified, especially minding that you can get the second hand A1708 for that amount of money now.
