Why is my audio crackling sound after 30 minutes?

Sound starts to crackle on audio out after 30 minutes. If I switch to optical out it works better but still occurs. I have eliminated the Nvidia Shield as the source by trying another shield; And it works over Bluetooth to my sound bar save the shield disconnects after 35 minutes. I am using hdmi and have try both sources. I haven't try composite in yet. Which part could it be? Any suggestions on how to ‘fixit’.

Hi,

What is the model number of the TV?

You said that you tried another Shield, did you try another HDMI cable as well? Also you said "I am using hdmi and have try both sources" does this mean different HDMI inputs on the TV?

To eliminate it further you may have to try the Composite connection, as Composite audio is an analogue signal which doesn't use the digital signal processor on the mainboard in the TV, whereas HDMI is a digital signal which does.

Does the TV have the latest firmware installed?

I hope you are having a fine week.

Thank you very much for you very helpful response. It is very much appreciated.

No I had not been able to test the composite in. I was planning on testing that but it required setting up a composite in source. I did try several hdmi cables prior to switching from the 1/4 inch audio out to the optical cable. I thought the optical cable had fixed the problem but it only delayed the crackle for a longer time. Also with the optical cable the crackle was not as pronounced so we could actually still use it some what.

Yes I was referring to the hdmi input sources on the TV. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote that post on my phone while sitting in my car during a blackout the other night: (Man that was brutal loss by the daboy's monday night.)

No I haven't updated the TV firmware recently. I probably should do that but I don't use the smart features and I believe the wi-fi is disabled.

The model is one of the Samsung 58" 1080p 60Hz/120CMR LED Smart TVs, I am not sure the model number at this second; I would go checkout the model number but it turns out that the TV was not at fault but there seemed to be some issue with google play music.

Solutions is that it was not the TV but background processes running on the Nvidia Shield. I believe it has something to do with Google Play Music. If I had to guess it was some sort of race condition or memory leak so I disabled Google Play Music on the shield and the problem has since gone away. Here’s some more details.

The model is one of the Samsung 58" 1080p 60Hz/120CMR LED Smart TVs. I was getting ready to take the tv apart when the android TV in my parent's bedroom started exhibiting the same issue. I went to the running tasks and noticed that google play music was running on that box and my parents don't really use it. So I disabled it in the app settings and proceeded to try the same thing with 58' setup; and low and behold, it worked. I don't have the same problem with my Shield so I assumed that is an issue with my elderly parents searching for stuff and starting up google music by mistake and after a while it would just take up enough resources to cause the digital audio issues. With that said, the Google Play Music app was not behaving properly.

While the Bluetooth would work fine for about 35 minutes; It would always lose connection after that and require a restart. I believed that too to be a bug with the NVIDIA Shield android; So I am planing on testing to see if that still occurs. I will update this answer if the Bluetooth audio disconnection issue is fixed as well.

So it turned out that it was a back ground processing issue on the shield and I have been tightening up the shield by either deleting or disabling unused sources. I do keep the shield up to day on firmware but guess I need to tighten it down more and simplify the settings for my parents.

Hi,

Have you checked that the Google Play Music app is up to date?

According to the link it was last updated only yesterday 22/10/2020.

You may also have to check that the TV firmware is also up to date. Check online for "(insert TV full model number) support" and see if there are any updates available. With most TVs they can also be installed manually by USB.

Be careful if you decide to update it manually via USB that you have the correct firmware for the model, as installing the wrong firmware can brick the TV and either a new compatible eeprom or entire mainboard is required to get it working again

Cheers
