This is a very old laptop and I was thinking of repurposing it for something else. But a few months ago the hard drive wasn’t being detected and isn’t usable. So I found an old hard drive from another computer. But whenever I try to install it, it says I need to switch to UEFI mode… I am not sure of how to do this…

You can completely wipe out the hard drive, re-partition it with MBR, so it doesn’t need UEFI boot.
Older laptops probably don’t support UEFI.

Sorry I'm new to this stuff, how exactly do I re-partition with the MBR?
@Abel Benoie What I usually do is use a USB HDD adapter, connect it to a working PC, then use diskpart. Google diskpart, make sure you know the commands to switch to the right HDD before cleaning, otherwise you 'll clean the PC HDD>

So to switch it too uefi mode you need to go to the bios and how to do so would be when you start too boot up your laptop usually on the top right corner of the screen or bottom right it should say like F8, F12.F10 to enter bios or boot order. when you finally get into the bios you want to go to boot options and select uefi mode because its most likely in Legacy mode right now

That's the thing, I cant seem to find that option. I have searched online if anyone has tried but it hasn't been successful...
ok so when you boot up your computer does your device at all let you go into the bios by any chance?
I am able to get into the bios by clicking F12 when it boots up... But I cannot seem to find the setting to change it uefi.
