Unable to activate Touch ID and Power Cycling after screen replacement

After replacing the LCD and digitizer, I now get an error message saying “Unable to Activate Touch ID on this iPad”. I was very careful not to damage the home button or cable when removing it from the old screen. Also, the iPad now powers itself off and back on randomly. What could be causing these problems and how can I fix them? Thanks in advance.

The Home Button flex on the iPad is very thin and ever so close to the edge of the screen. It’s not uncommon to damage it when removing the screen or transferring the button over to the replacement screen. Take a close look at the flex, preferably with magnification as even the tiniest tear can disable the TouchID.

As for the random shutdowns, it could be caused by a damaged Home Button flex. You could try to remove or disconnect the Home Button flex to see if this has an impact or try to install the original screen if it is still in a working state to see if it still shutdowns.

I'm fairly certain that the home button flex was not damaged. Do you think that failing to unplug the battery during the screen swap could cause both issues (touch ID failure and random power cycling)? If so, is there an easy fix for this issue? Thank you for your help.

Forgetting to isolate the battery (see Step 10 of the guide) usually causes backlight or LCD issues. However, anything is possible.

IMHO the home button flex or it's associated connectors were damaged. You have to inspect it very carefully, preferably under magnification.

SO two things, did you unplug the battery when unplugging everything? and once you replaced the screen are you sure that you plugged everything back in including the battery if you did unplug it in the first place

because a common cause too this could be 1 you didnt unplug the batter, 2 the flex got damaged somehow, 3 something wasnt plugged in all the way, or for the whole device turning off by itself it could also be a battery issue

I did not unplug the battery, as this step was not mentioned in any of the guides that I read/watched. What kind of damage could be caused by not unplugging the battery? Thanks for your help.

so if there was still electricity running through the board and you unplug other components before discharging the device you could short something on the board
