Mic and volume control doesn't work on headphones (but sound works)

Hello

Mic and volume control doesn't work on headphones but sound works fine.

iPhone SE (iOS 12.3.1)

I tried :

  • my headphones on other iPhones : they work fine -> it’s not my headphones
  • other headphones on my iPhone in jack plug : they don’t work
  • lightning EarPods in my iPhone : they work !
  • I replaced the jack and lightning connector (using this guide) : nothing as changed !
  • I restored a back up : nothing as changed.

I suspect a software problem, but I don’t want to update to iOS14, I’m afraid it ‘ll slower my phone…

If possible, I don’t want to use a jack-lightning adpater.


Do you have any other idea to help me, please ?!

So since this is the older SE what is most likely the issue is your headphone jack itself, have you had any issues with the phone charging? because the headphone jack is located on the same flex as the charge port. so most likely the issue, but you did replace it like you said so two options either A the new part was defective for the headphone jack or B it got damaged during the repair.

Not sure about the phone charging but I confirm I changed it.

A or B are possible, but I bought the new part on ifixit store, who generally sell good quality parts, I was careful during the repair and most importantly it's exactly the same problem than before...

-> what do you think about a software problem ?

(a lead for a physical problem : I hear sometimes little cracks in the headphones)

Honestly it could be a software problem but thats just a small chance, its also an old phone, but with the knowledge provided i can really only come up with defective or damaged, but i can look into it some more.
