Protecting the laptop from my sweaty fingers?

hey guys

so like many of you, i spent a lot of doe on this machine. the thing is that i spent so much i get nervous when i use it and my fingers start sweating. im forced to use a wireless keyboard and mouse which sucks!

my questions are —

1) do you guys know if there is a protective membrane blocking the keyboard from the logic board? so like, is it okay if my fingers sweat it out on the keyboard?

1b) how about the trackpad? is it okay if my fingers get sweaty on the trackpad?

2) what if i buy a keyboard cover? i know apple said not to use them because if you close the lid it could damage the screen. but is this true or nonsense?

2b) if it is true and the keyboard cover is unsafe for the screen — what if i just used it when the lid is open? will the keyboard cover trap heat and cause the computer to overheat? i’ve heard some keyboards are used to vent out heat.

i am very embarrassed by my problem. thankfully it does not interfere with women which is more important than my macbook. i appreciate your expertise on this matter.

yours,

Mongo

@crazymanman - No I read it I was on a rush this morning. I have no issues with a thin skin! There are thicker ones which I don't recommend.

There are also skins for the trackpad but I don't recommend them as they interfere with the finger tracking. The trackpad is glass so its not as sensitive as your keyboard keys.

Hi Dan,

thanks again for your reply. i understand.

do you think the keyboard cover traps heat for the macbook? or can be bad for it? do you also close the lid on yours? im curious after reading this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203671

thanks,

Mongo

@crazymanman - The issue is how thick the skin is. It needs to be very thin! As I said some are on the thick side which could damage your system.

Heat is a concern in any of the newer Fn/TB models as Apple didn't allow much thermal leeway. So if you are pressing your system hard then its best not to use the skin at all. If you are a light weight user they you should be fine. At best you should install a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro it will allow you to see what your system is doing and you can speed up the fans to improve cooling when needed.

The questions I don’t answer means IDK

  1. I personally use a keyboard cover which is really nice, and no, it does not trap heat, I’ve read on other websites that said that MacBooks don’t release heat from the keyboard, so you can use a keyboard cover. Sometimes I forget to take the keyboard cover off, and it’s fine, as long as your cover is not really thick, buy the thin ones.
