What's likely to have been damaged by water?

I have an iPhone 5s that was submerged in water, fully turned on. I’m told it wouldn’t turn off and kept beeping until the battery died.

It’s been left to draw for a few days, and I’ve now taken it apart. The battery is all swollen and lumpy, I assume that’s a result of the water damage.

Is anything else likely to be damaged, and how would I check? Given the symptoms I’ve described, do you think the device itself is likely to be salvageable?

I’m just trying this out of curiosity and a taste for the retro; the person who dropped it already has a replacement so it’s not important.

Well, I've ordered some alcohol and a new battery, and I've removed the logic board. I don't like the look of the darkened area around the grill on the top left though:

I'm guessing that means something there shorted out big time. What do you think?

You are possibly right, but you will know for sure after cleaning and connect a new battery. If that doesn’t help I would not spent more money to it, it is cheaper to buy a secondhand used 5S.

I cleaned it and put a new battery in. The vibrator started as soon as I turned it on, I had to unplug the battery again to stop it. I'm inclined to write it off now, unless anyone has any clever ideas.
