I dropped my laptop, it won't boot...

Hello,

I have been using my Dell latitude e6330 for quite some years (7 years to be exact.)

so, while i was using it I had plugged into charge and it was on and i dropped from a table (3 ft in height.) and when i turned it on windows was preparing automatic repair. I shut it down and tried to turn it on again but sadly, it would not boot. It made a whirring sound and beeped. IT IS NOT A HARD DISK FAILURE. The reason why is because i plugged in the hard drive to another computer and sure enough the hard drive was recognized.

This particular model was manufactured in 2013, and these are the specs:

i7 3540m

8 GB of RAM

WD black 298 GB SATA 7200 RPM.

I also removed the optical disk and tried to turn it on, but it would not work.

Thank you.

Hi @geekyguy

Try a power refresh and then check if it boots OK or at least stays on.

Here’s how:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop if connected and then remove the main battery from the laptop.

Press and hold the laptop’s Power button for 30 seconds and then release the button.

This will dissipate any residual charge in the laptop and restore the BIOS to the factory default settings.

Reinsert the battery and connect the charger to the laptop.

Switch on the charger and then the laptop and check if the laptop starts and that you can get into BIOS by pressing F2 when the Dell logo appears.

If still no good try the same again but this time also remove the RTC battery from the laptop as well as the main battery and the charger and pressing the Power button etc.

Here’s the owner manual for the laptop. Go to p.25 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the coin cell battery (aka RTC battery, CMOS battery)

After the 30 seconds power button operation reinsert the RTC battery, the main battery, connect the charger and start the laptop and check that it boots OK.

Bad luck.

It seems as though there may be a power problem on the motherboard.

Is there any damage around the power connector port at all?

If so try disconnecting the power port (see p.43 in the manual) and try to start the laptop on the battery only.

@jayeff The battery does not hold charge as i have an old charger, sorry about that.......

Pity you can't get hold of a compatible battery or charger.

@jayeff the story was quite crazy, actually this whole thing happened because of a cup of coffee, i dropped the coffee on an extension and then my working charger stopped working.

Beeping does infer memory error. I don’t remember the exact coding but if the hard disk works, maybe the ramsticks are dislocated.

Have you checked if everything inside is in place?

Here is a disassembly video for refference.
