Can the battery be replaced?

My 16” MacBook Pro will no longer charge the battery, nor will it run under power from the power supply (power supply is fine - works on other computers).

Battery is now depleted and I need to recover files from the internal drive. I suspect that the logic board will need to be replaced, which means my internal drive is gone. So, before that is done, I’m wondering if the depleted battery can be replaced with a fully charged one, to allow time to transfer files to an external drive.

Any thoughts? I have an appointment scheduled with an Apple Repair shop in a few days.

Sadly you are in between a rock and a hard place!

If you can’t get the system to charge using any of the ports then the power logic is damaged so it will require a new logic board.

As far as replacing the battery, I wouldn’t do that instead I would just plug the battery in hopefully it has enough of a charge to run the system long enough to get your stuff off. Most likely it won’t ;-{ And to add to it getting a battery for this system is not easy as its still under warranty! The best you can do is get a full uppercase assembly MacBook Pro 16" Top Case/Bat/TP US - Silver, Apple P/N 661-13161 but getting it will take a time.

So… What to do?? You need to get your self to an Apple Store which has in store service. Hopefully they have an uppercase to transfer your logic board to gain access to the files, The chances of that is very slim and getting to someone willing to make the effort is also slim. Most likely your files are lost to the winds, sorry ;-{

Thanks Dan - unfortunately, that's what I thought. There's only one Apple authorized repair shop open where I live (the Apple Stores are all closed) and I have an appt there in a few days. I'm hoping they will take some extra time to either charge the battery in the laptop somehow, bypassing the power logic, to provide power to recover the files. Or, move the logic board from my computer to another one with a charged battery again to provide power to retrieve the files. I realize this is above and beyond - but I'd be willing to pay for their time and effort.
