55EG9600 4K 3D OLED 55" TV Teardown and Firmware/Software issue

I have torn down my LG curved OLED tv but I am a MechE with a focus in electrical engineering - not a full blow Electrical Engr. I did not want to risk damaging the system but did notice the main components including a Bluetooth/wifi module at the bottom right (bottom left if looking straight at the tv while it's assembled) along with a heatsink protecting the main inputs (HDMI, usb etc), and three main boards with an I/O setup at the bottom for the IR receiver. There are three large boards that make up the majority of the assembly but I am not confident enough to diagnose their individual purpose other than a basic flow of inputs to ATOD and vice versa. There is no Bluetooth setting on the GUI which I found odd, and the device shows up as a media hub rather than a TV on my network. The webOS software is Java based, so if anyone knows Java if would be a breeze, however I deal in JS and python and don't want to learn Java just to figure out why this isnt working as it should.

Can someone please do a Teardown and perhaps recommend a mirror/way to create a usb install of the newest webOS with a recovery option in case thingy go awry? Thank you!!

Hi,

“There is no Bluetooth setting on the GUI which I found odd, and the device shows up as a media hub rather than a TV on my network”.

The specifications do not list Bluetooth as a connection option. Are you sure that it is a WiFi/BT module and not just a WiFi module?

Also you can change the TV’s “network name” in settings to whatever you want. Perhaps media hub is the factory default name but I’m not sure of this. Go to Network > TV Name

Here’s the service manual for a LG 55EG9600-UA which may be of some help, if it is the same as your model that is. There is no mention of Bluetooth in the schematics for it either, only WiFi

LG already supplies info and software to install via USB. See Software and Drivers down right hand side of page.

As long as the TV turns on (to a degree) you can install the firmware. The caveat is that the firmware has to be a later version than what is already installed.

Apologies if this is not what you meant and have already tried this. Did you wish to add or enable a feature?

If you haven’t tried the “updated” firmware then ensure that I’ve linked the correct page as installing the wrong firmware can “brick” the TV. Search online for it using the full model number of the TV, just in case.
