Questions about water damage and isopropyl alcohol?

So I was reviewing over the Electronics Water Damage guide on the site. When it comes to cleaning the logic board (cleaning circuit boards section) it says to submerge them in isopropyl alcohol. For how long? Also is it neccessary to submerge them or is it just as effective to "blot and dab" the alcohol with a Q-tip?

The reason I ask these questions is I have a 32GB 3rd generation that I disassembled, cleaned both sides of the logic board and all connectors (except battery) with the "blot and dab" method. Let it air dry for a few hours and put it back together. All seems fine, except the digitizer isn't responding (since I can't unlock it, I don't know if WiFi or headphones work). Sleep/wake responds, volume and home buttons work, and I was able to restore it in iTunes. I have ordered a new digitizer, but wondering if I should take it all apart again and submerge it to be sure.

You never want to blot and dab. One of the reasons for the submersion is that flushes out places you can not, blot, dab or brush. Since you are having problems with something properly functioning I would say yes clean it again and try submerging it this time in isopropyl alcohol.

How long should it stay submerged? Is it a quick dunk or stay under for a specified period of time?

Then there is the battery, it is still functioning properly, holds a charge and everything. Do I need to desolder it to submerge or just leave it out of the alcohol bath?

No really specified time. I would clean it again with a toothbrush while it is submerged, especially the digitizer connector. Pure isopropyl alcohol does not conduct electricity. The contaminates in a lesser grade may. I would remove the battery as an extra safety measure.

Well, I gave it about a 30 minute bath in IPA. Then hit it with a toothbrush. Followed by a cold hair dryer. The new digitizer from Am@zon showed up today. Partially seated in on the case to hook up the ribbon cable. Restarted the iPod with Sleep + Home combo. And it still does not work, same exact results as the original Apple digitizer.

Am I missing something here? Did I do something wrong? Or should I just suck it up and consider this thing toast?

I'm usually not one to give up this easy, but there are limited options as far as trying to repair myself.

I forgot to mention I am using 91% IPA, it was all I could find.
