iPhone 6s Plus

No charging progress after placing new battery

Iphone 6S Plus. Previous battery was up for replacement so got a new one and also a new screen. Replaced both but now I have the following:

without lightning connection switch on, shows phone needs to be charged
plug in lightning, shows battery is charging (minor red bar icon) when try to switch on the phone
stays like this, no progress even after hrs
disconnect battery, measures 3.48V at the battery side
connect lightning (with battery disconnected), measures 3.69V at the battery connector (phone side) but only for 12sec, then drops to 0 for 1 sec and then comes back
switching on the phone with battery disconnect but lightning connected shows black with white apple logo for the same 12sec as above, then drops and continues to cycle

I was wondering, as I have reseated all connectors at least 3 times, inspected them all look ok, all right screws in the right places and don’t think to have damaged anything, all parts looking OK … will it only charge properly when it’s closed up ? There’s this gold plated pin connection on the phone side where the touch button comes when closed, does it serve as some kind of open/close break circuit maybe, that prevents charging when not closed ?

If not, what else should I check ?

I’am sure a new battery will solved your problem, this is the first step you need to try.

OK thanks, will order a new one then. I've done some other repairs more succesfully but where I didn't use that battery-sticky, but now of course I did lol, fingers crossed I get it out properly this time ;)

Never pry battery out at the logic bord side when battery tabs are broken .

OK, some COVID delay but new battery finally came in, after fitting I noticed different behavior such as warming up (whereas previous one stayed dead cold) but also the restore screen. Odd this now pops up, followed the process to restore and getting error msg 9 and 78, putting me in this restore loop ... So I do think the previous battery was the problem but now strange I'm put into this vicious restore loop ...

tried on itunes on windows and got same error codes, 9 if I selected restore, 78 when I selected update; tried at least 5 times and then, magically ... it booted with progress bar et voila, fixed !

It will charge when the screen is open. Have you tried hooking up the original battery to see if it affects it?

thx for swift reply, I still have the previous battery but as getting it out by pulling the strips failed, I had to dig/peal it out and wouldn't trust it, it's all dented/bent

Straighten it and set it in temporary to test if you have a defective battery.

nope, I just looked at it more closely and it seem punctured (smells bad as well), doesn't look safe to do so, voltage is also complete 0V so it's very likely waisted

but with the behaviour described you would suspect the battery ?

Did you possibly knock off some components on the board next to the charging connector. I have seen this happen on this forum when someone knocked off components off of the board while taking the battery connector off or back on
