Mac slow with fan at full blast - SMC sensors issue

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro with classics PFM006 and PPN001 error codes, system slow and fan at full speed.

I have several sensors reading bad values. Different programs read some sensors but not others:

- HWMonitor Official: Heatpipe Incoming and Outgoing Air;

- Different version of HWMonitor: Palm, Touchpad, System Proximity and Ambient;

- iStat Menus: Actuator, Palm Rest and both SSD Proximity.

It’s clear that something is wrong, probably the SMBUS_SMC_3.

I looked at the logic board and I don’t see any sign of oxide, looks perfect to me.

I tried removing the Trackpad because it’s a common cause and of course I had the same symptoms (SMC detect a missing sensor) but all the sensors were like before.

I think if the cause was the trackpad, removing it would mean having only the trackpad sensors reading bad but the others being okay, am I right?

I haven’t look at the voltages yet, what could solve the problem? A SMC reflow or could still be the Trackpad?

The logic board is: 820-00923-A

Likely the touchpad, people go crazy with the spray cleaners and wet wipes (more so now with COVID-19).

What happens is the liquid seeps into the touchpad logic damaging it.

You need to spray the cloth with the cleaner, then use it to wipe the system down. Don’t use the wet wipes without wringing it out (the dryer the better) or not at all.

Thanks, so you think this is the case even if disconnecting it still show the other sensors as bad?

I would just replace it and test again. Sensors are tricky! Unless you know what they go to you can be lead down the wrong path.

Liquid damage could have gone into other areas. So you need to makes a full inspection of the logic board (both sides).

Okay, it was the Trackpad. The flat under the battery was slightly sideways. Strange since it’s glued and nobody ever opened it.

So, even if the only trackpad is disconnected every other sensor on the same bus “fail”.

Try resetting the SMC by 1. Shut Down your MacBook Pro 2. Hold down the Command, Option, Shift keys, and the Power button ALL TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME for 10 seconds 3. Release the keys 4. Turn on your MacBook Pro. I hope this helps.
