Cpu showing 100% in task manager. Games crashing

I have a AMD 7 2700x in a msi x570 carbon wifi mobo and for some reason lately the cpu has been showing 100% usage in task manager. I have tried a couple different a/v softwares, driver update programs, roll backs to no avail. I was planning on doing a full format and reinstall but figured would give this a chance first as I have a ton of software that I don't really feel like reinstalling over the next couple days.

I first noticed it when I was playing GTA 5 and it suddenly crashed to windows. Now when I play anything with a graphics heavy load it seems to crash after 10 to 60mins of play.

Any advice? Other then the previously mentioned hardware I also have a rtx 2070 super GPU, 16gb ram

Hi @govenerdubz ,

Check Task manager > Startup to see what programs are being loaded at startup and whether they are necessary. Check online what they do if you're not sure

Check Task manager > Processes to see which process are using the most resources. Again as above check online to see what they're there for

Is it only when playing games or generally when using the desktop?

Check in Event Viewer (right click Win start button, left side of Taskbar and click on link) and check for any noticeable Critical, Error or Warning events that stand out. Double click on the event to get more info

Were there any Win updates around the time that the problem started? (Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > view update history). If so try uninstalling the update(s) and check what happens

Seems to be only when in a game. It will suddenly pause for half a second then the desktop will appear. The only thing that has ever popped up after a crash is a rockstar games little screen saying your game crashed and do u want to try safe mode with lower graphics.

One thing that was odd that I just noticed is that when I just opened event viewer it says event log service is unavailable. Verify the service is running. Not sure if this is normal or not. Don't remember turning it off at anytime....

It normally should be turned on and there would have been no reason for you to turn it off.

Try this to get event viewer going again and then check it after a little while or maybe even a restart.

There will be "information" events that basically just tell you what happens normally in the OS but at least if they are then then it is working.

After that play the games and when they crash look at event viewer again
