Why is my temperature so high on my MacBook Pro Retina?

Hey everyone,

So about a month ago I replaced my late-2013 macbook pro’s battery with a kit from ifixit itself. That went without issue and the batteries work well.

However, afterwards my computer started lagging significantly when i started running more than like 3 tabs on my laptop, something that never happened before with both fans ROARING. For reference, my laptop is i7 2.3 Ghz 8GB RAM. Though its getting old, I feel as though these specs should definitely be able to support running more than 3 tabs at once, especially since it did so before the battery replacement.

Recently, I decided to (randomly) check my laptop’s internal temperature and its SO high. I downloaded an app to check it and I’ve attached an image to the post. My average computer temp is 123 F and 180 for the CPU temp. This is obviously way too high. I took the temp when I was running 3 tabs on my computer and literally nothing else.

Thoughts on this? is this a malfunctioning temperature sensor. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and all I got back was an error code for the battery which I guess would be expected since I replaced it (with an apple-specific OEM battery), and the battery runs otherwise fine with normal longevity.

Thoughts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Does it feel hot on the bottom? If it doesn’t feel that hot on bottom , then it would be an incorrect temperature sensor. First things first, take a bottle of compressed air, take out the fans, and clean/spray it. There maybe a massive build up of dust causing this, I’ve seen it happen before.

Next, assuming that the system isnt that hot, you can control the fans using Mac Fan Control https://crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

I use this application alot personally on my L2013 15”

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately I have already cleaned out the fans using compressed air, though there was dust on it, I don't believe it was the source of the issue. And no, at the computer temperature of 107 F its pretty normal feeling to me : (
