How to clean mid 2009 MacBook Pro

Hello, I have mid 2009 mac book pro 13’ and works to slow.

Would be very happy if there is any guide that can help in cleaning trash/logs/file that are not used and only take place on my hard drive.

How full is your drive? How much RAM do you have, have you ever upgraded the hard drive, is it getting hot?

I have upgraded the hard drive. But I meant cleaning the hard drive from unuseful files..

I have a mid-2010 MacBook pro and was having the same issue in 2015. It was running horribly slow. I think the best way to improve speed would be to upgrade the hard drive to a solid state drive. The price of these seems to be constantly dropping. Maybe 100-200 bucks depending on the size you want. This significantly improved my start up time from 1 min 58 sec to 27 seconds (clocked today 5 years later). This is still my main computer and the speed change applied to other applications as well. Also the bonus that you can increase your storage space by double or even quadruple. I included a few links to an extremely useful website that does this on a 2009 MacBook pro, and also the iFixit website link for hard drive removal.

I’m not too computer savvy, and the changing was pretty manageable and will make the biggest difference. I had tried looking up cleaning log files too and all of that made a negligible difference in computer speed.
