13" MacBook Pro, 2018 display glitch

It appears that the ribbon in my MacBook Pro screen is loose or damaged. It displays correctly in certain open positions until bumped or moved, then gets extremely distorted with vertical and horizontal lines. Is the ribbon in the hinge a replaceable part or is it part of the whole screen?

Can anyone point me in the right direction, thanks in advance

I will try to find an adapter connect an external monitor. I have done a apple hardware diagnostic and came back without errors.

Can you post a few pics so we can see what you are encountering 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

Are you able to connect an external monitor into your system? If you can, does the external image stay normal when your internal messes up?

There are a few different ribbon cables that go between your main case and the display lid. Understanding the distortion is important before fixing the blame on the ribbon cables.

From what you are describing I’m more inclined to believe your display panel is damaged. Seeing the pictures is give us a better idea on what has happened.

Update (03/24/2020)

@J Lukes - Well the issue is indeed the ribbon cables for the Vertical & Horizontal signals from the T-CON board.

Unlike most displays which has the T-CON within the display assembly its self. The T-CON board in your system is placed in the uppercase which exposes all of the lines through the hinge area. A good bang along the black plastic clutch cover can pass the hit to the cable as well as the board.

Sadly, the cables, T-CON board and the display its self are all one unit. You will need to replace the fully assembly to fix your issue.

I don't believe that it is the display panel, it works great when the hinge is in certain positions. but if it is bumped or moves the tiniest bit I have to open and close it until I find a sweet spot where the display is perfect. I have added a picture to the original post that may help diagnose. Thanks for your time

Thank you Dan, I really appreciate your time; even if the news was bad.

but can you find out where is the T-con unit. I can apply external cooling to it if I can identify where it is.

@fisherleung - look at the image I posted for the location above.

There really is no way you can fix this design flaw! Apple realized the failure and made some corrections in the 16" model and the 2019/20 13" MacBook Pro's. Sadly too little and too late ;-{

The best you can do is install a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro which is what I use and recommend! As well as cleaning your fans and heat sink fins of the dust built-up. Also make sure you don't sit your system down on a bed or rug which blocks the vents.

Once damaged you also can't undo the damage.

Better solution yet! I noticed that at the very early stage (only a few fainted lines are present), I can just extremely draw heat away from the MacBook. I now use a Peltier plate + water-cooling system to actively draw heat from the system.

The system would maintain the temp. 1 or 2 degrees above room temperature.

Not very practical for a mobile laptop!

Besides, without directly attaching it to the CPU (and a few other chips internally) you can't achieve 1 or 2 degrees above room temp its just not physically possible!

no it's not very practical for a mobile laptop - when it's still used as a laptop. Im using the laptop as a desktop now. It's better than putting it at home sitting there as junk.
