X550J: Can anyone explain how I change thermal paste on my X550J?

so i watched the video, the methods are sound. i do not understand or speak russian, but im sure he is just giving a play by play of what he is doing, along with some of his own tips. when replacing thermal compound, make sure to clean all of the old off of the chips and the heat sinks with some high grade isopropyl alchohol…99% is great. he was removing the tape on the fan to check for any clogs or debris and i suggest you do the same. when applying the new thermal compound, many, many people will argue about the proper method. the basics is to put just enough that when after applying the heatsink, there is a thin film of coverage over the entire chip. to much will spill over onto the board and surrounding components and can also reduce thermal efficiency. too little will not transfer the heat properly leading to overheating. a pea size amount will usually do the trick, but again…depending on the size or shape of the chip, you will have to just make sure there is just a thin film of coverage across the chips. applying the heat sink and lifting back up to check a few times is not bad practice for a novice. once you are sure that its good, reapply the compund and heatsink for the final time.
