E55-e2 Vizio left side backlight issue

I have troubleshoot a backlight issue to it being identified as the left side backlight or the main board .i need to troubleshoot whether the issue is in the backlight or the power connection coming off the main board…

i got to this point by removing the right side connection and leaving the left side. 5 to 10 min backlights went out. I performed the test on the right side by and backlights continue to stay on with no problems. So my problem is on the left side either with backlights or the connector powering the backlight off the main board.

my next replacement will be the main board … unless I can test the back light strip on the left side …

In the first image its the connection circled in black on the left that appears to be the issue.

UPDATE 03/08/20

here is my question … would one Bad LED cause BOTH left and right side backlights to go out after tv is powered on for approx 5 min. Keep in mind the left side and right side are using different connectors sources as you can see from the photo. On the mainboard pictured the right cable goes to the right backlight and the left cable goes to the left backlights. I will replace the bad connector strip either way. Thanks for pointing me to the backlights.

Thanks @oldturkey03 … I replaced the power board from shop Jimmy which didn’t resolve the issue. I believe your on the right track with the backlight strip being defective. The right side of the backlights stayed on all night while I had the left side backlights unplugged. I went to put the voltage meter on the left side connector just to test the mainboard voltage coming out for the left side and I touched one of the top and bottom prongs together with my probe accidentally and that knocked out the right side of the backlights. So I guess a short in the left side backlight could be the issue.

I just didn’t want to believe it as replacing the main board was a much easier fix than doing those pesky backlights…. I will pick me up a backlight tester…. any suggestion on reliable yet inexpensive tester?

thanks

@flex4705 they are all pretty decent and luckily the basic testers are inexpensive yet still reliable.

@oldturkey03 … I tested all the backlight strips and found one LED out on the left side you can see from the picture posted. There are 6 LED per strip and the one out is the 5th LED … you don’t see the first LED in the picture

@flex4705 most of those have their LED's connected in series, it only takes one to fail for the whole array to fail. Your power board potentially creates 220+ Volts to distributed that over around 45 LED's (this will depend on how many LED's your strips actually have but it gives you a general idea) which creates around 5V per LED. You take one out they all go out but only for that side. If your other side has a separate connection it should not be affected. Double check those strips as well.

@oldturkey03 ... i just got my LED tester in and all the strips test successfully except the one strip ... so with that i do need to replace the one strip or LED. Yes there is a separate connection for left side and right side and yes after about 5 min both sides will go out. however if i just disconnect the left side from its powersource, the right side will continue to stay lit as normal functions. This did lead me to believe the left side connector and right side connector are joined at some point on the main board even though they are separate going out to the LED strips. So my thought process is to replace the LED strip and if that doesnt fix it then it has to be the main board connection....

Another question for you ... this vizio came with LED model IC-C-HWX55D866. I am wondering if i can replace the one strip with IC-B-HWX55D866? Or can i replace all 12 strips with IC-B-HWX55D866? the difference being B and C. I cant find any IC-C-HWX55D866 used on ebay or anywhere.

thanks

@flex4705 this sounds actually more like a backlight strip failure. I would suggest to get an inexpensive backlight tester first. Check the strips. It does not sound like a mainboard issue since the other side works. So either backlight strips or power board would be my focus.
