SSD upgrade gone strangely, running Mojave OS dummy needs help!
Hello
Before I get started, please remember I am very new to PC/Laptop upgrades, I've only had experience replacing RAM and graphics cards before, never a hard drive. I also have mild learning difficulties so I need things explained simple stupid, or as clearly as possible please.
So today I went about cloning my mid 2012 macbook pro HDD to a 1tb SSD using disk utility, and running OS Mojave. It's an Samsung EVO SSD and stock HDD that came with the macbook from new.
I plugged in the SSD using a Sata to USB cable, formated the SSD for APFS, the same as the original HDD, and restored from the HDD to SSD using APFS. The process took several hours to complete. This was following a carefully selected YouTube video. An error message came up at the end. So, i shut down and rebooted in recovery mode and went to check everything was in order. The files did copy over regardless of the error message
On my HDD, I have 499.9GB capacity and 230.81 used.
But on my SSD, I have 1TB capacity and 450. 81GB used.
I'm a bit perplexed as to why this has happened and how, is it the way the SSD handles APFS files or something, was it an error? If I were to reformat the SSD and reclone would it affect read and write speeds? What's the next thing I need to do and how?
I tried to research into this as much as i could but I'm unsure what to do now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys
