MacBook Pro newly replaced battery drops from 50% to 7%

i replaced a battery in a macbook pro which coconut battery reported was old and worn out. low full charge cap, high cycle count. when it got to 50% the battery life dropped to 7% and then stayed at 7% for longer than it should before the laptop powered off without reaching 0%.

the first replacement was an egoway battery. when I charged to full battery capacity after replacement and observed coconutbattery stats, i got a cycle count of 1, a higher than spec full charge cap (by about 200mAh, normal in my XP) and everything looked grand. as i tested draining the battery through “normal use” (bob ross youtube videos on loop) when it got to 50% the battery life dropped to 7% and then stayed at 7% for longer than it should before the laptop powered off without reaching 0%. i ran this test several times to make sure it wasnt a fluke. same results. a diagnostic check showed error PPT004 - battery requires service.

Assuming I had bad luck and had received a faulty replacement battery (despite total satisfaction with many egoway replacement batteries prior), the second replacement was also an egoway battery. when I charged to full battery capacity after replacement and observed coconutbattery stats, i got a cycle count of 1, a higher than spec full charge cap (by about 200mAh, normal in my XP) and everything looked grand. as i tested draining the battery through “normal use” (bob ross youtube videos on loop) when it got to 50% the battery life dropped to 7% and then stayed at 7% for longer than it should before the laptop powered off without reaching 0%. i ran this test several times to make sure it wasnt a fluke. same results. a diagnostic check showed error PPT004 - battery requires service.

i am finding it really challenging to search the internet for help with this specific issue. the only results i can find that arent powerfully vague beginner tips about batteries or other useless (to me) posts seem to end with “you should replace your battery” or “try a smc reset”. i see my almost exact issue in the ifixit forums, but that thread seems to revolve around ifixit batteries, and the fix there is also “you should replace your battery” or “try a smc reset”.

The above methods have not worked for me. Has anyone experienced this specific issue before? Can you help?

Thank you for reading.

EDIT: I should also mention that coconutbattery reports a drop of about 200-400mAh at cycle #2 during my tests, a significant and strange drop in this measurement for a single cycle imho. after 5 cycles, full charge cap down from 8883mAh to 7842mAh.
