Lower half MacBook Pro 13” screen is missing with vertical stripes

About a week ago I noticed a flickering horizontal line in the middle of my screen. The first time I saw it, it disappeared when I plugged it in.

The next time I turned it, it was back and this time it didn’t go away. The following day it was joined by a single vertical line about 2 inches left of center. The next day there was a 2nd vertical line about 4 inches to the right of the first, also the horizontal line had now gotten wider and more pronounced. So you get the picture, it’s getting worse and worse.

Now the computer is completely black underneath the horizontal line and the space between the two vertical lines is covered in more vertical lines.

I’ve reset the PRAM and hooked it up to an external screen, where it worked beautifully.

I’ve read a lot about the 2017 13” Pro’s having this problem. But Apple won’t address it or something,

Any suggestions?

Ouch! You’ll need a new display assembly to fix this.

Basically there are a set of ribbon cables which connect the T-CON board to the display, one or both have become damaged. Here’s a view of the T-CON and the cables

Sadly, these parts are not replaceable on their own.

The causes can be a bang along the black clutch cover along the bottom of the display assembly or excessive bending of the display so the cables just wear out.
