MacBook Pro battery failure after two years of use

Hi,

I have replaced the device battery late 2017. The replaced battery worked ok but I had sudden shut offs at around 20% SOC. So now, two years later when I had some time, I made a SMC reset to fix that. But after that SNC reset the device shuts off os soon as I disconnect from power and the MagSafe light is always green. After googling a bit around I found the coconut battery app and that says “Battery Failure YES” (screenshot) and it says battery is charged with 1.1watts. For me it looks like the battery management says “I can’t deliver / absorb any (bigger) current” although the battery is charged. I tried to reset SMC one several times again with no effect. I have opened / closed battery connector without effect. Is it possible that the battery was defective or incompatible from start and the initial SMC reset made this apparent? Thanks for help.

All you need to do is to replace battery ASAP, it’s not good to run a machine with a faulty battery in place. Can’t say what the failure is for sure, but probably there are faulty cells. Besides poor performance it may harm your Mac.
