iFixit replacement display doesn't sleep when closed

Got a replacement display assembly from iFixit but when I close the computer, it doesn’t go to sleep. The apple logo on the back remains lit up and the screen stays on. If I go to the Apple menu and click sleep, then close the computer, it wakes back up.

I’ve reset the SMC and the NVRAM, and running a magnet over the side of the keyboard puts it to sleep. But the screen doesn’t stay tightly closed and I can’t seem to find a magnet in the display itself. The broken assembly seems to have one. Is there an easy way to move it from the old screen to the new one? Or better yet, does anyone know a way I can just get a screen that has the magnet in it already?

Let’s check to see if the Hall sensor is working correctly. Within the lid is a magnet its placement needs to align with the sensor which is just under the uppercase shell.

Using a steel paper clip slide it along the face of the screen to locate the magnet in the lid. Carefully fold the lid down to find location on the uppercase the paperclip meets up with (don’t close the lid fully)

Then, place a small rare earth magnet on the uppercase so the screen goes out (sliding it back and forth), is the location the same? Did the screen go out?

The paper clip sticks to the top of the display, so I know there are magnets there. Is it possible iFixit sold me a display without the magnet on the side of the screen?

@mday - It might have been forgotten! It's also possible its just in the wrong place or side. Using the magnets location folding down the display should tell you for sure if you haven't done that. Give the other side a try as well.

If you don't find the magnet then you'll need to contact the iFixit store for a replacement make note to this answer. So you have something that explains things.

It doesn't look like there's one on the other side either. I'll reach out to customer support and post here if they send me a replacement or not, thanks!
