MacBook Pro sleep indicator light does not turn on when sleeping

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and when I put it to sleep, either via the Apple menu or by closing the lid, the sleep light indicator does not turn on at all. I’ve performed an SMC reset and PRAM and have realized this is not the issue.

Here’s what I found: Last night while moving my notebook with my right hand the sleep indicator light turned on then off when I let it go. After pressing again under the case, I noticed the light would come on then off when releasing pressure.

My guess was it might be the hard drive ribbon cable. I installed an SSD except that was about 4 months ago and the sleep light indicator had been working fine. So I removed the bottom case, checked the ribbon cable and it looks to be intact.

Might it be the ribbon?

After screwing the bottom case back on and trying again, the sleep indicator light still does not turn on. I noticed that if I press the area near ( where the brackets screw in to hold the drive) under the case, the light turns on and off after releasing the pressure.

My other questions are: The SSD I installed is not as thick as the old HDD, would this cause the ribbon to loosen, so that it is not pressed or taut/snug from the inside, or is it a faulty ribbon? Is there a way to test the ribbon?
