What phone do you have? I do know that there are some models by LG where it is impossible to even reset it. By the way, if you enabled USB debugging before you locked your device, there are some PC tools that can help you.

You can not enable USB Debugging in Recovery Mode. This needs to be done BEFORE you forget your password. If you didn't enable USB Debugging before you forgot the code, then sorry. A reset would be the only option. :-(
