Hand made 3x 18650 battery pack charged but voltage says 3.87v

I resurrected 6x 18650 batteries from a laptop battery , there is nickel connecting the batteries and where a + and - connection should be I soldered on copper wire. Each battery is charged. One is at 3.82v and the other 2 are at 4.2v. I am using them to mod my nerf rival gun which needs a minimal of 9v to turn on , 10v to fire. Anyways, when I connected the terminals together the power sounded way too low. So when I checked the batteries it only read 3.82v . I checked each battery and terminal but they are all fine. Right now I don’t have much money and I cant buy a new power supply for my gun. What do I do? I’ll add a picture if the power pack in about 7-9 hours.

So is there any way to go without the boards?

I can’t sacrifice much money , but I can sacrifice $1-3 if necessary. But is there a way I can create my own, I don’t have boards but a have a lot of spare parts

Don't skimp. Lithium isn't forgiving when it blows up or one cell discharges and the other cells overcharge. They have a BMS for a reason.

Maybe you can find the needed battery pack on Amazon or eBay more cheaply then trying to built your own here.

As you can see there’s quite a lot of engineering involved in making a battery pack. You can get into trouble very easily here! Over charging can cause the battery to explode! And what that happens ignite in a very hot chemical fire. The alignment of the batteries (series and parallel) also can create instability! As some cells will charge/discharge at a different rate which is why you need the circuitry to monitor this.

I'm with you on this. Get a common RC connector and a matching battery and stop flirting with danger.

@danj The other issue is the crap knockoffs. Back when 2 people here had a S3, we went through so many knockoffs I can tell from the label. A lot of the fakes are too good to know right away unless you have a small sample of known fake cells.

One of the S3's I have that doesn't work and is in poor shape (the one with a battery) has one I think is genuine, but I'm leery of it because of how many knockoffs floated around where they openly used them with case inflation and runtime issues. The dead giveaway was faded print for the serial number.

Sometimes you have no choice (Ex: Older laptops like the T61) or the OEM is far more expensive then the actual device. I don't have an issue with those devices with a knockoff, but at least use a good one. In some cases, knockoff is the way to go - especially with 2005-7/8 laptops on eBay. A lot of those Sony packs are part of the many battery recalls. Some sellers even get rid of the battery if it's dead or barely functional because of how common the recalled packs were. It's frustrating because they somehow made a cell that doesn't die easily, but I understand because I'm aware of the problem. I've seen some of them go for 10+ YEARS at reduced capacity normally; my nc6000 came with one that ran for 1 HOUR and it was from ~2005 and I got 6 months out of it. I miss those batteries since we lost them due to the Sony recall :(.
