Ok - Mac rebuilt with Bootable USB with High Sierra. Thanks for the suggestions. I did not have to revert the time/date for it to work. Many many thanks! Just the new hard was needed - no sata cable replacement.

Yes there is a replacement, but the cable on this model usually does not fail as it is protected by the notch it fits into:

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Hard Drive/IR Sensor Cable Replacement

UPDATE 12/2/19

Pre-Installed MacOS:X 10.7.2 (11C74)Maximum MacOS:X 10.13.x*

Apple started introducing APSF formatting with High Sierra and it tends to mess up SSHD drive so I would go for Seirra.

Format the drive GUID - MacOS Extended (Journaled) first.

Understand that Apple does not want you to get this machine running as they want to sell you a new one. You will need to set the clock back to within a year of the installer or it will generally tell you the installer is damaged.

You have to first install a system and the installer on an external flash drive or other external source. Boot from that and then run Disk Utilities to format the new drive and then do your system installation.

FWI This models main problem was with the GPU and if you ever have problems with it, come back as there is a work around.

Thank you very much - looking for ideas then. The root of my issue is the MacBook Pro will not boot with the current hard drive. I ordered a new hard drive and attempt to reimage the Mac from the factory OS (Lion I think) but it fails when attempting to begin - after validating the hardware with the message " Can’t download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X" - I am hardwired to the network and can browse the internet at this failure point so I am pretty sure I am online to attempt the rebuild. I have rebuilt this device once before with a new hard drive and it was fine. Some of what I read points to the sata cable failure. I am not sure what else to try. Any ideas? I will be honest, I am attempting to support a Mac (but am mostly PC - so figure it out as I go.

Many thanks in advance - Tracy

Please tell us the specific drive you are using. Also the OS X you are trying to install.

Updated initial comment with pic of HD - Lion is the OS (or at least what my choice is when I try to recover) - It's possible I am using the wrong recovery method/choice as I am PC - not Mac. Thanks.
