Is it possible to fix perfect circle scratching?

Block Image

This happened when my 360 got bumped and it became obvious when the game was reloading and threw up an error. It still plays, but the problem with this type of damage is once you get to the damaged area you’re dead in the water and end up in the same position as if it happened on the security sector of the disc.

Is this generally recoverable or is the disc done once you get this circle?

Try searching DVD scratch repair on Amazon.

I do recommend getting a high-speed PC DVD drive, replicate the damage on a cheap disc and test on it. This kind of scratch is pretty deep and you may have to grind down a fair bit of material. Even if there is no risk of damaging the data layer, the change of thickness or flatness may cause optical problems.

I found a replacement for this in a games lot, so I am losing nothing by trying to repair this copy. I figured since I know the 360 laser has always been unforgiving of drive bumping the disc may very well be trashed so it made sense to get a new one (2 disc release with a install and play) and see what I can do with this one.

I can feel it with my nail, but it doesn't catch it. That said, the 360 E is very unforgiving compared to the RROD machines and may have split up the bonding agent between the data and protective layer. Disc 1 isn't like that, so it doesn't look intentionally done for a physical security mark nor do I see it on Black Ops II, MW4 or 2K8.

I'm thinking my best option is to take it to a record store and get it buffed if the price matches the risk it's trashed, especially since I have a new copy coming and I'm out maybe a few bucks.
