Screen works perfectly for few minutes then becomes garbled.

The screen works perfectly, then suddenly today after 3 or 4 minutes there are garbled random lines, which stays like this, or else goes black. The sound is usually still working. If i disconnect the power , then switch back on, the picture is ok again for a while. Any ideas?

The TV is a 2010 46” Panasonic viera plasma ( TX-P46GW20 ) No problems until today.

Below is a video of the problem..

I managed to get the back off the TV. Everything looks in good shape. No ribbons are disconnected, capacitors look ok to the naked eye. Not too much dust and dirt.

Thanks Matt. I will definitely try this. But because the problem is recurring each time after a few minutes, i was thinking maybe it’s to do with some kind of overheating or capacitor issue. I’f its something simple i’d rather not have to buy a new TV!

Thanks for your suggestion!

On a plasma TV capacitors are used for things related to power supply, audio and rf signals not really display. I would think overheating would cause it to turn off completely. However a thorough cleaning could remedy any heat issues.

dara_acca we need to know your TV's exact model number otherwise it is really a guessing game. If this happens after a few minute it is usually caused by components overheating as well as bad solder joints. It could be an issue with your buffer boards. It would help if we can see your boards as well as what the screen displays. Post some good pictures of this with your QUESTION 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

Thanks pal - ive uploaded a video and photos to my question, as well as the model of television. Many thanks for your help!

This looks like either a y-sus board or a main board issue. Let's see if there are schematics available for your model

It sounds like there is an issue with the ribbon cables that attach the plasma display to boards that control that display. If you remove the back panel of your TV you will find two circuit boards with several ribbon cables attached. One board controls the horizontal display the other is for vertical display. These boards may be hiding under speakers or other components but will likely be near the edges of the TV. I would unplug and re-plug in all the cable to check that they haven’t come loose over time. If they are damaged you will have to source replacement parts.
