Why can't I play European games?

So i have an European PS2 fat with a FreeMcBoot memory card, but whenever i try to play thru OPL a European version of the game (E.g. Jak II Renegade) it shows a black screen.But in the USA version its all ok.

P.S. I choose the European version cause the USA version of Jak II wont start a new game or a continue without saving.
