Water damaged MacBook Air, can I chisel down the potential problem?
Last year I had spilled soda on my MacBook Air 13” early 2014. I would eventually have problems with booting, but when it’s on I have an issue with the trackpad and keyboard which I wrote a topic on on this forum. I had issues with turning on the MacBook so I didn’t continue.
Today I tried turning it on after a long period of time so I know the power discharged. I held the power button and it booted up! I still had the same issue with the trackpad. I shutdown the MacBook and now I’m unable to power it back on. I’m not sure if I’ve waited long enough for a complete discharge but when I plug in the MagSafe it turns orange indicating charge. When I try hitting the power button it turns green indicating the power button is registering a press. But when I hit the power button it does not turn on.
I’m hoping with this information I can help diagnose the situation further. It looks like it can theoretically power on under the right condition. Perhaps with a power discharge?
I imagine the issue could be corrosion but could it be the battery or another part I could replace from what I’m describing?
Update (05/28/2019)
I did not do anything. I eventually just stopped powering it on. I don’t have any tools to crack open the MacBook yet. I initially just cleaned the surface so it looks normal.
I was hoping I could target a few areas like just the battery and trackpad. I imagine leaving it like that did not help the situation.

The first question is did you follow the guidance? Did you clean the corrosion up and replace the trackpad and if needed the trackpad cable?

No I did not. I did not clean it.

Then your procrastination may have made this worse! Hopefully its not too late! Take the logic board out as outlined here MacBook Air 13" Early 2014 Logic Board Replacement As well as inspect the rest of the system for damage.
