Trying to find the right LCD controller board for iMac 27 display

I want to re-purpose my broken iMac 27 (late-2011) display and make it an external monitor. I found a video on YouTube of a guy who did this, but I need to find the right LCD controller board kit for the monitor, and I don’t know what to search for and know I’m choosing the right one.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Patrik  it really does not matter where it comes out of etc. What matters is that you have the right panel number. Look at the back of the panel. You should have a label attached to that with some numbers like this example LM270WQ1(SD)(E3) That will determine which controller board you need. Let us know what you find.

Ah I see so I have to take it apart in order to get the number. Gotcha. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to since I’ll have to put it together again until the part(s) arrive :-/

Do you know of a reputable source to buy a controller board from? All listings I see everywhere look a little shady? :)

Yeah they can be shay but sometimes look can be deceiving:-) I have in the past used multiple different vendors and always got the right part. Key to that is prior communication with the vendor. I use taoboa and alibaba almost exclusively for projects like this.

ΙΜΗΟ the biggest issue with those cheap controller boards, is that you will not get the original display brightness. Those controller boards, have the tendency to lower the displays brightness by default, if your ok with that then i guess its a win win situation.

Personally im very hesitant in this lower brightness issue and i still dont know what to do. So far i haven't found a ControllerBoard that will not lower the brightness :-(
