Won’t Power on! - Help! Small Financial Reward for correct answer

Hi All,

I was given a MacBook Pro 2010 13” by a friend which doesn’t turn on. The charger given to me is a T Shape (I gather I need a L Shape, does this matter if the same voltage?)

The charger only once every 5/6 times lights up Green when I plug it in so I have ordered a new charger which arrives today. The battery is in good condition as is the screen

I have opened it up and have taken out the RAM and changed slots, done an SMC reset and that’s about it.

The logic board is pictured here - There is a connector loose, no idea what that is for!!

is there anything else that could be causing the issue?

Update (05/14/2019)

Thanks for the help so far guys!!!

I will look to try and clean the logic board first before I consider buying a new one.

Any recommendations on the product to do that would be amazing!

We don't like monetary rewards here. Positive scores and a that-a-boy is all that's needed!

What is the stuff all over the logic board? This thing has obviously gotten a bath in some kind of sticky stuff (now dried up). It needs to be pulled and put into an ultrasonic bath.

A very poor attempt at working on it has been tried, the keyboard cable has been damaged, there are screws missing in the RAM bracket.

The logic board receptacle for the subwoofer and right speaker is missing from the logic board.

The serial number shows this to be a :

Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" Mid-2010 Specs

Identifiers: Mid-2010 13" - MC374LL/A - MacBookPro7,1 - A1278 -  2351*

There are also screws missing on the battery bracket. So i need to remove the logic board, is that the best way to clean that gunk?

Or cheaper to buy a new logic board?

This logic board is a money pit. You need to find out what has been spilled on it and if it entered via the keyboard.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to find out that information. I am happy to put a little money towards repairing the logic board. Or just buying a new one>

To add to @mayer 's comments the keyboard connector was hacked up. Clearly the person who tried working on the system did not understand how the connectors work. I suspect the connector is damaged besides the cable.

The loose ribbon connector is the keyboard backlight. This model did not offer it (connector not present on the logic board) The first versions of this system was sold as a MacBook then Apple upgraded the system and sold it under the MacBook Pro name with the new name badging.

So it appears the person has a liquid spill and had the keyboard replaced (as this is not the correct replacement keyboard). Sadly, they failed to clean the board properly and you now have corrosion damage which is effecting the systems power.
