Whats the difference? Retina 15" displays between L'13 and E'12 models

I’m trying to figure out whether the MacBook Retina display is the same in early 2012 through the late 2013.

My MacBook is a late 2013 Retina and the screens are ridiculously expensive. If they are backwards compatible, all things being equal, why would I buy the more expensive display?

I’m assuming that the graphics are better on the newer display, but it that it?

The retina displays all have the same resolution across the same sized display. The connection cables are a bit different as Apple moved the connections around on the logic board.

Apple also used different suppliers and over the years upgraded the FaceTime cameras which is why the full assemblies are different, and lastly availability is tighter on the newer model display.

Sadly, you do need to use the correct assembly. If you’re brave you could replace the LCD panel its self but it’s a lot of work and you really need to practice the techniques to do it MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown
