Dishwasher not washing after filling

We have a Bosch dishwasher (E number SGS4332AU/30) that fills with water at the start of the cycle but doesn't wash, although it releases the soap powder and will drain when I press reset. I thought there might have been bubbles in the intake hose and that it might not have been filling properly but have flushed the house thoroughly and it's still not working properly. We bought it secondhand and it was working fine for a few weeks before it stopped working properly. Any advice anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

Stefan Adam Howe, I have a few questions for you: what was it doing during the wash cycle? Do you hear anything when it’s in wash? Did you get error codes? Do you have a loop on the drain hose at the drIn pipe under sink? Have you opened the door when in wash cycle to see if it’s doing anything or how much water is in there? The answers will help determine the problem.

Hi Lady Tech. I can hear a humming sound after it fills but then it goes quiet. There's a pool of water in the bottom of the dishwasher when I open it but nothing seems to be happening inside. When I let it run the soap container opens (but there doesn't seem to be any water spraying around the dishwasher). The dishwasher then drains after a while but I haven't tried to run a full cycle since it started to malfunction. The dishwasher doesn’thave a digital display so I can’t see an error message. The drainage hose doesn't loop under the sink.

Steffan Adam Howe, the hum is from the wash motor. After it fills it should start the wash. We know it’s not the drain pump cuz you said it will drain. The wash motor could have a bad bearing/impeller. Maybe a glass broke at some time. A small piece of glass in the sump will move like a bullet and tear up impellers, damage seals that will leak causing motors to rust etc. The hum is a motor locked up. It overload eventually cuts it off when it pulls too many amps/gets hot. I’d turn the breaker off/remove power to it before doing and repairs.

Steffan, the wash motor seems to be the problem. The hum is happening when the wash motor should be running. The motor impeller could be frozen due to rust or something is stuck in the blades. Broken glass is usually the cause. Glass will cut seals and cause unnoticeable leaks that rust the motor shaft/bearing. Depending on your model, you might consider replacing the wash motor and sump to ensure you get new seals and impeller. Costs a little more but is usually easier to replace and you’ll have piece of mind knowing the seals are good. REMOVE POWER TO UNIT BEFORE DOING REPAIRS
