MacBook Air will not power on and makes an audible click.

My MacBook Air will not power on when plugged into the power adapter. When holding down the power button, there is an audible click from what sounds like underneath the keyboard.

When attempting an SMC reset, the computer responds to the key commands as the light indicator on the power adapter turns from amber to green.
