Should I continue with battery replacement?

I just removed my sort of swollen battery from my iPhone 6. I did puncture the battery very lightly which caused a little flame like thing to come flying out while the battery was in the phone. The flame like thing came out of the phone so it wasn't inside the phone. The battery came out then, but some left over black stuff (maybe the battery casing?) came out in the phone. I wiped it off (see pics) but some residue remains in the phone I cant get out. The inside does smell a bit not too much. My question is: Can/should I still proceed with the battery replacement?

You're very lucky something more serious didn't happen. Burning battery fumes are very toxic and extremely hot.

As far as replacing the battery goes: You have nothing to lose by trying. Worst case, you connect a new battery and the phone doesn't turn on or is otherwise damaged. The only way to know is to try it.

Q-Tips with acetone and/or isopropyl will allow you to clean the rest of the "black stuff" from the phone.

I put the original battery that came with the phone back into the phone. I did this because my new battery didnt come in yet. The only problem with this OEM battery is that it dies at 60%. Right now, the phone isnt turning on. Could it just be that the battery is dead? I'm hesitant to put it on the charger after this fiasco. Should I?

Wait. You're reinstalling your punctured battery back into your phone?!?

For that matter, your punctured battery is still inside your house?!?

No no no. The punctured battery was the one I ordered from amazon. i ordered a 2nd battery from ebay now. The OEM battery that came with the phone is what I put in the phone which is not swollen and not puntured. I still have yet to dispose of that punctured one. Should I put the phone on the charger or?

You punctured the new battery during installation? How in the world did that happen?

You can put the phone on a charger WITHOUT a battery; it should turn on. You can also put the phone on a charger with the original battery (NOT the punctured one); it should also turn on. Under no circumstances should you connect the punctured battery to your phone or to a power source.

I can’t tell what the top picture is.

Use a Q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean up the residue. Install your new battery. I’d put the old battery in a tin can and fill it with sand or dirt.

Call your insurance agent and tell him you're trying to burn down your house by putting a battery. that has already started a fire once, back in your phone and are actually think of hooking it back up to a charger.

Yes, put it on the charger and watch it ten minutes then feel it to see if it is getting excessively hot.
