I charged my Battery And now My Car horn just Honks & wont stop!

Honda Accord 2002

The Story:

I disconnect my Battery to charge it( since I’m currently having a problem where the battery is dying p.s its a new battery :/ This battery may be a little bit bigger for this car. ) When I reinstalled the battery and hooked up both terminals The car started honking at me off and on continuously. I haven’t really had a chance to work on this problem and was wondering if any of y’all have any ideas although I have confirmed cranking the car dose not fix anything. All Help is Appreciated! ~Wessi

I had the same problem with my 2011 CRV. Turning the key to get in and starting the car didn't help. Using the key fob ( the unlock button ) stopped it immediately. My neighbors appreciated the solution as much as me.

Check if you are connecting the correct battery terminals to the car.

Most modern vehicles will exhibit this behavior when you disconnect and reconnect the battery. The fix is as simple as using the key or the remote lock fob (if you have electronic door locks) to lock and unlock the car doors one time this will usually silence the horn honking.

Thanks for the Tip @professorc. I will try your suggestion and let you know how it goes. Although I'm not exactly sure that is the fix 2 my problem

Did this work? I got a new battery and since they it will honk when off periodically. This has been going on for 2 months. I checked the batteries in the FOBs and they are all fine for my 2015 Kia Soul

For some reason my key fob(panic button) didn’t work. I read some in the owners manual that unlocking the driver side door would turn off the anti-theft system. And it Did!

Yes, using an actual key on the driver's door is a viable plan B if your electronic lock fob is dead for some reason: dead fob battery, water immersion, mechanical damage etc.
