which harddrive do I choose for my macook pro 2011

Hello,

Which harddrive do I choose for MacBook Pro 2011? It’s the only thing that needs to be repaired. I want the least expensive I can choose from while still having quality (so not the cheapest). Please send me a few options I have a choice from.

Thank you

Here’s a good run down on the better drives: TechRadar - Best hard drives 2019: the top HDD for desktops and laptops

I prefer the Seagate Barracuda HDD or Seagate FireCuda SSHD. But to be honest I’ve moved to SSD’s in my laptops as I tend to bang them around and SSD’s hold up better, but they are more expensive. Samsung 860 EVO is what I use.

In either case you really need to also replace the HD SATA cable as well. Often times your current cable is the older version which can’t support the higher data rate the newer drives can push, and in some the cable is worn or damaged. As you didn’t tell us which model (13” or 15”) heres your choices:

And Yes! These are for the 2012 models as the cable is better built in this series and fit and work in your system. In addition to replacing the cable you’ll want to place a strip of electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable crosses over to help protect the cable from the rough surface of the case. In addition you don’t want sharp creases in cable around the corner bends, you want smooth arcs as you can damage the fragile foil wires within the ribbon cable.

I do recommend you stick with MacOS Sierra on your system as High Sierra & Mojave introduced a new file system APFS which has issues with SATA based drives.
