iPad Air stuck on Apple screen, then black

The video above shows my problem with my iPad Air (currently repairing for a friend)

I changed the battery, as it was not booting on. When I installed the battery it worked fine while it was still open, but i left it like that for a while since I got busy with work. For about a week, it was not on. Then, when I got back to it I turned it on but it only had 1% left so I turned it off shortly thereafter. When I closed it, it wouldn’t turn on and I when I put on the charge this happens.

I’ve heard of deep discharge, and I’m wondering if that’s what is happening. Itunes does not see my device, and what’s interesting is that after a while of being on the charge I get a backlight that turns on but no apple logo, besides the first occurence upon initial charge.

Any ideas of how to proceed? I’m considering using a power supply at work to charge the battery and try again.

Thanks,

Fellow technician

The battery may not be the issue here. Obviously, the battery is the first thing to replace but because you can no longer get it to boot once the battery has discharged completely leads me to believe the issue may be with the charge circuit itself. You could confirm this by partially charging the battery manually with a DCPS. Be very careful when doing this if you have never done it before. You cannot leave the charge unattended as overcharging can destroy the battery and cause a fire. Dave Jones (EEVBlog) has some videos on how to do this properly.

So if the battery is not the issue, then it may be the charge port or the charge subsystem on the logic board. The next logical step would be to replace the charge port. This requires micro-soldering.

I will try the chargeport next, I tried a new battery at work and now the tablet is stuck on restore to itunes and when I plug it in the PC detects it but every time I try to do a itunes restore I get an error code. At this point, the ipad screen is white and displays a loading screen that is not moving.

I'll get back to you after the chargeport is changed. Maybe, the restore is not working because the port is defective. If that does not work, could it be the flash memory that is not working? I'm curious since the restore is not working
