Hardware Diagnostic Failure Code 4SNS/1/40000001:YH1R-0.000

What is this sensor? Temperature sensor right?

I’ve been using this iMac on and off a little bit and also reinstalled High Sierra 2-3 times and Mojave once without any issues or freezes.

Also ran a bunch of hardware diagnostics and that error popped up twice out of 10 or so. iStat Menus currently reports proper CPU temps, low to mid 30’s and ~60 under stress.

Several days ago it reported 100-130 though. I’m not complaining if the problem has disappeared … :)

To ensure there aren’t any significant problems caused by sensor failure what can I do that I haven’t already done? Or, is anything even necessary?

Thanks for the help.

So I went to the Apple Store and it looks like the error was that the Samsung SSD I upgraded the iMac to wasn’t reporting it’s temperature and voltage to the computer because of a minor incompatibility - the computer didn’t know how to read it from the drive. It still works fine though so nothing to worry about.

Sadly, Apple does not publish this series sensor errors, I wouldn’t discount it!

I would bring the system into an Apple Store to get them to tell you what the error is and then decide if its something you need to worry about.

Some thinks I would look at is making sure your outlet is properly wired and is properly grounded back to the breaker panel and onward to the ground point (rod or water line pipe) and ti electrically active (not corroded up)

I would make sure you have a good surge suppressor or better yet a UPS for your system as well as your peripheral devices as a surge can also come in via the USB or Ethernet cable.
