Hi,
According to this web page, it says that Japanese cars made for the local market do not have VIN numbers but have chassis numbers instead, which do not contain as much information as VIN numbers. There may also be a model number associated with the chassis number which provides more specific model information.
Putting your vehicle’s chassis number into the Free Vehicle Search link on the web page, gives this result.
Here’s another link which may be of some help.
If you scroll down the page you will see entries for build year 2004 with Chassis ID of LA-3ESP which if you click on the specific model variants will give full details regarding the vehicle specifications.

Edwin Nordzievor your VIN is incomplete. To decoded it you will require the full 17 digits.
The first 3 digits show the manufacturers ID code and the first character identifies the country of assembly. Next 5 digits identify attributes like body style, model engine etc. digit 9 of your Vin is used to validate the VIN Digit 10 is for the model year. Number 11 is for the plant where your vehicle was built and the last 6 digits identify a specific vehicle with the year, model or make. SE3P116798 is the only VIN on the RX8. It was purchased from Japan and my observation is that it is the only number on the car. Other searches online revealed that similar VINs were given to the RX8s in Japen. So how do I get the 17 digits for my car?
cars from Japan use their own chassis frame numbers as serial numbers, which don't convert to VIN's.
