Unusual one on trackpad not clicking

I had cleaned up a chocolate milk spill on this one about two years ago. It’s worked fine till now.

What’s unusual is that the trackpad tracks with no problem but won’t click. OK no problem replace the pad.

But first I checked to see if it was a software issue by exchanging hard drives. Same issue. No problem, use and external USB Apple mouse. Here’s where it got me. the mouse tracks fine but no click, so I can’t even log into the machine. Now I’m wondering if the fix is in the trackpad or this may be a logic board issue. Anyone have any pregnant suggestions?

So it looked to me and another tech like we had a bad logic board. But I didn’t want to give up on it as it belonged to a missionary. So we kept messing with it, having very little hope. Then found it! Disconnected the trackpad and the external mouse now worked. Happy, Happy. Got in an new trackpad, installed it and everything worked just fine. What I still do not understand is why a bad trackpad (the LSI were activated) would not allow an external mouse to work.

While it’s a pain to get to, I think you’ll need to pull the battery to get to the click adjustment screw.

The battery might be pressing on the trackpad when its warm. Wrap the system up tightly in a plastic bag and put it into the refrigerator for a few hours to see if cooling it down helps. If it does then it needs a new battery.
