Replacement battery is not recognized

After a faulty USB cable fried my logic board, I needed a replacement. I got a used and tested one from iFixit. After replacing the logic board, the computer would only work from a charger, the battery was not recognized (the icon disappeared from the toolbar on the top as well.) I purchased an aftermarket battery from iFixit, but I have the same issue. After some more research I did an SMC reset and and NVRAM reset and checked with coconutBattery as well. When the battery is disconnected or when the old battery is connected, I can get the battery status icon back on the toolbar, but it shows 0% and coconutBattery shows nothing. When I connect the new battery, the battery icon disappears from the toolbar as soon as I try to put it back there. The whole logic board has just been replaced so I am suspecting a faulty replacement battery. Any ideas?

Sometimes it would be hard to diagnose. The worst scenario is a failure on your logic board, yeah your second motherboard replacement turns on, but are u sure that all IC involved on charge are working properly? It may be so hard to test, it needs the logic board diagram, scheme file to navigate on chips, equipment to test and replace damaged components by microsoldering.

Fair enough... This new logic board feels extremely slow so I did a Geekbench on it and it did around 1300 single core (2.9 intel i7)... The old one was well over 3500... so it is one third slower. I have lifetime warranty on this new logic board from iFixit... the question is whether I could send it back because it is slow? (Of course, it might also be causing the battery issue...

So it looks like it is the logic board. The board that iFixit sent me was defective and I am sending it back to them to get another one. Hopefully that one will work. When they test these repaired boards, they just do some basic stuff and they do not test whether for example it recognizes the battery or not. We now tried with three different batteries and two different OS versions and the none of the batteries were found by either of them...

I hope ur new motherboard it works properly. Please, upload ur new comments when you can try it.

So I got a new logic board to replace the replacement... This one was a little worse than the first one. It did not recognize the battery and it did not recognize my default SDD drive as bootable. I could boot from my other SDD (in the optical bay) and the computer actually saw the main drive, it just could not boot from that one. This could have been a firmware issue, as the main SDD had High Sierra and the other one had Sierra.

So I swapped the logic boards back to the one that did not recognize the battery but at least could boot. I have since tried wiping the main SDD and do a clean install of Mojave, hoping it will speed the machine up a little... with no luck. Mojave runs on it nicely, but is just as slow as before and still no battery.

Ifixit offered another replacement board to see if it works, but for now they are out of stock. They promised to get back to me once they have a 2.9Ghz i7 board.

At least the computer is working... but it feels like a wounded animal...

Wow, this problem shouhld be by a charging IC component. Its hard to diagnose and need schematics and boardview, if it can be detected, needs to be replaced with a new component. I bought many IC on ebay...

When unplugging the old or replacement batteries did you use a metal tool to do so?

If yes then the issue is most likely the data lines from the battery connector to the SMC to read battery information being shorted momentarily causing damage to the logic board by accident when disconnecting the battery with a metal prying tool.

To fix this it requires microsoldering / board repairs so you'll have to take it to a reputable board repair shop to do so. (replacing few components and at worst replacing the SMC, system management chip).

No, I did not. I used a plastic spudger.

If the battery is still not being recognized after a logic board replacement I would first suggest you replace the DC in board because if the battery has no charge and the computer cannot supply power to the battery, obviously the computer will not recognize the battery.

Would new batteries not come with some charge in them? I can swap the DC in as well, but right now the computer does run with the DC cable so then only the charge function would be faulty. The battery indicator LEDs on the side are dead though with both batteries. (What are the chances that my first, fully charged battery completely fried and does not show up, but the new one comes with a completely zero charge?)

Also, when I go to Sys Preferences and try to add the battery status to the toolbar (@ energy saver) it would drop off the toolbar immediately if the new battery is connected and stay on if the new battery is not connected... this does not indicate a charging problem to me.
